Stamp Simply Challenge #6 – Tags-N-Bags

Challenge No.6 – Keyword SSnotime06 (stands for Stamp Simply notimetostamp No. 6) There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload your card at Splitcoastand/or your Blog, anytime at all! You can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.

OK now, don’t panic when you see all these pictures — this challenge has 2 parts, and you may play either or both parts, up to you!

Challenge Part I: Make a tag — any kind, any size, any occasion, but make it with *component parts*. Make a couple small parts and then just put them all together for your final product. I LOVE to do this — it’s so easy to mass produce 6 or 12 of a little tiny thing — like my snowman in the cirlce. Then make another part, or two — like my recantagle red dotted stamped tag. Then make your base, do any stamping on it you deem necessary, and then just put all your parts together and you are done in no time!!!

OK, now that was supposed to be the challenge, but I just could NOT leave it there — I HAD to make a bag to go with my tag. So, here’s

Challenge Part II: In a simple and quick fashion, decorate a bag to coordinate with your tag. Decorate the front only. Use any type of bag you wish, and if you don’t have a decent bag, you can decorate a large envelope or anything you feel you could use to present a gift in. No hard and fast rules here — just want you to do something quick and simple to have on hand for a little gift — it’s so nice to have this sort of thing on hand when you need it in a pinch!!!

Thats it create away!!! My samples are shown below.

Remember when you upload to use the keyword above, followed by a comma. Please come back here to post (as a comment) that youve played, and provide a linkso I can check out your card right away. You can find all cards uploaded for this challenge by clicking Gallery Submissions Here.

Some wanting to play said they have never uploaded before. If thats you and you need help uploading, just go to my Challenge No. 1 and instructions are there.

Here’s the tag. It measures 4 x 3.5. The corners are clipped on the paper cutter — I just measured 1″ from the corner and used those as my marks to make my angle. The snowman is from Merry and Bright, colored, punched and matted. The red dotted tag is from Tags for All, cut out and matted. Both are then adhered to the tag, the snowman being pop dotted up. A ribbon slot punched, ribbons run through and you are done!

This bag is just an inexpensive handled bag from Wal-mart — SU sells a similar bag. It is about 9 x 5.5. I measure the bag front and then cut a piece of DP at least 1/4 wider and longer as I have found that these bags are often not perfectly square. So to be safe, cut the paper larger, adhere, lining up the top and left edge, then you can trim off the right edge and bottom either on your paper cutter (carefully) or by hand. This way you always have a perfect fit. Using a fun DP dresses this bag up instantly. Please scroll down to read about the tape I use.

I often like to add a simple decorative band on the bottom just for fun. Cut a strip of paper the proper width, stamp on it if desired, run a ribbon across the front and adhere on each edge on the back, then adhere your decorated band to the bag. This one is very simple with one word, noel, embossed in white, and a red ribbon run across it!

Here’s the bag with the tag on it:

All products (but the bag) are by SU:

  • Stamps: Merry and Bright, Tags for All, Many Merry Messages
  • Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White, Wintergreen Designer Paper
  • Ink: Black Stazon, Real Red, Versa Mark. Markers in Real Red and Certainly Celery.
  • Accessories: White Embossing Powder, 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 Circle Punches, Horizontal Slot Punch, Red 5/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon, 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon in Black, Red and Celery.

I just LOVE making gift bags!!! Quick, fun and useful projects!!! And I especially love when a project serves more than 1 purpose, and this project serves triple duty!!! 1) It is the sample for this challenge; 2) It is a sample I will use during November when SU has the Designer Paper special going (to showanother use for DP); and 3) I will also probably use this bag and tag as a Hostess Gift during November.

Editing to Add: I was asked about what tape I use on the bag, so I’ll address it now — I had this photo on file from a year or so ago. I use a very non-traditional tape — it is very cheap, very sticky, and very time consuming to use — but nothing will EVER fall apart when you use it!! It is double sided carpet tape, but it has to be a certain type of carpettape — all carpet tapes are NOT the same. This is a wide tape, about 1.5″ wide, comes on large rolls in boxes, from the Dollar Store! And yes, it costs $1. It HAS to be THIS carpet tape. You can get other brands of carpet tapes from Wal-mart or anywhere, butthey don’t work. They have heavy fibers in them, rendering them uselss for cards/paper crafting. The Dollar Store carpet tape is very thin and works perfectly for cards.Once you cut a piece off the roll and adhere it to your card, you then have to use your fingernail to pull up the covering on the other side, and this is the time consuming part. Also, you MUST be very precise when you set your piece down, because if it is positioned wrong, there is no pulling it up to reposition — it sticks TIGHT!!! That being said, and with all the negatives, I use it all the time because it is cheap and it sticks tight, and that’s important to me — I do not want my projects falling apart in someone’s hands!!! I am really curious about those large guns people use and I may be checking into that — that seems very efficient!!! Here’s a photo of the carpet tape:

ETA: It’s Budget Dollar — everyone is asking — sorry, I should have said that in the first place!

Oh also, my challenge last week, #5, was a fun one — making a card from scraps — and hardly no one played — only a few dedicated souls!!! That is when my FeedBlitz was not working, so I’m wondering if no one knew about it — or, and it is entirely possible, that no one liked the challenge — LOL!!! Either way, it had very little attention and it was actually my favorite of all the challenges I’ve done so far. If you are so inclined, please feel free to play that one as well: ssnotime05.

Thanks much for looking!!! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and can find some time to do whatever it is that pleases you!!!

You are early today. Wish I didn’t have to sub so I could start playing now. Your samples are REALLY CUTE! You have made that Merry and Bright set so versatile. Love all your ideas.

So glad that I am off today and I will be able to play! Work has really put a damper on my stamping time “sigh”! Anyway, I have to get some things done around the house before I can play, but thank you for posting early Sharon and your samples are lovely as always:) Maybe I will also be able to get to last weeks challenge too!!!

What a neat challenge………..following your example I have made some of these bags for gifts (saw them in your gallery) and everyone loved them. I will be doing this one sometime this weekend and also want to do last weeks which was an EXCELLENT one, by the way!

Another fun challenge! Love the colors of your bag and tags! We get all of our stuff packed up next week (except for a few stamp sets, ink and cs, of course!), so my free time is a little limited right now, but I’ll have more time to stamp soon! Ha! Look at me with *no time to stamp*!! hehe! I haven’t in a few days, so I may have to squeeze something in today… hopefully!

My paper is on the way to being organized and now I have retrieved every plain gift bag from the nooks and crannies they were hiding in. This was a super way to get me motivated and I will be able to use this gift set when the need arises. I hope to do another before the weekend is done. Thanks Sharon!

I couldn’t resist, so I used a few scraps and came up with a tag that fits this challenge. I didn’t do a bag to match . . . yet, anyway. Oh well. I hope you like it:

Here is the mini bag that I made for this challenge. It was a challenge to get a picture but the bag itself was super simple! I like that I now have the option of dressing up a gift bag for someone! Here is my bag:

You do the most wonderful tags and bags! I’ve always loved them and find them so inspiring. They say it’s all in the packaging and a package like this sure makes the gift more special. Of course, you always put the most wonderful goodies inside these bags, too! I just love this! That black border with the red ribbon gives such an elegant look.

  22. Dawn (stampinscotsgirl) says:

FINALLY, I got some time to play and stamp!! Here is my gift bag and tag. The colours look rather washed out in the picture, but are more vibrant IRL. I have never done a gift bag before, so this was something new for me and I will certainly be doing more of these fun bags!! I thought this would be cute for a girl’s birthday!! Thanks for the great challenge Sharon and getting me to think outside my ‘little’ box!! Have a wonderful day:)

Love your tag and matching bag. I love making both and do often. I have stamped white bags, but never used designer papers and cs. What a cute idea and so easy. Recently I made a love note style of tag and attached it to a designer paper band that I then wrapped around a pair of socks I had knit. What a fun gift idea and my friend loved both the tag and socks. Isn’t gift giving just so much fun when it is homemade and personal?!? I am planning on playing soon, Nancy

  30. Jessica says:

Wow! Gorgeous bag and tag! Love the white ink on black, very nice!

  31. nancy littrell says:

Sharon, here are my tags……made with scraps! Does that count for 2 challenges ?!? Tags are one of my all time fav. stamping projects. I make them all the time, but usually do not upload. These cute little guys I just had to share. Real sparkly too 🙂 Thanks again Sharon for your awesome challenges. You stamping friend, Nancy

  32. Sonia Jung says:

I have tried every type of adhesive out there and I have recently found the cheapest and best solution. It’s called Tombow Mono Multi (permanent). Use the pen tip applicator (not the wide part). You only need a little tiny dot on each corner (and then rub it around with the applicator tip). You have to work a little fast, because it dries quickly and will turn temporary if completely dry.

Once you stick whatever you’re working with down, it’s stuck and is never going to come apart.

There is a cheaper formula ($1 less) that Tombow makes that is just permanent (clear bottle with blue top). The formula is a little runnier and doesn’t dry as quickly as this multi one.

The kicker..the bottle lasts quite awhile and in Canada, and it’s only $2.99!!

Here’s a picture of the bottle. I get mine at Office Depot.

    http://store.scrapbook.com/monmulliqglu.html

    Give it a try!

Finally got a chance to whip up a gift bag/tag. No stamping (!?) here, just a quick bday bag…

    Thanks for looking!!!

  35. Sharon — great project!
I sure appreciate the info on the tape — but we don’t have a Budget Dollar store where I am (bummer).

Anyone out there have a Budget Dollar store? I would love to send someone money if they can locate any of this tape and get about 5 rolls! What a DEAL at $1 a piece… I would happily pay postage… I live on a small island, and it would be TOUGH to find this, even if I did take a ferry and all of that…

Thanks for all of the inspiration!
