Boy Valentine

Published by at 2 50 pm under Stampin' Up! Projects,Valentines

I made this card today for the Color Challenge at SCS — Real Red, Taken with Teal and Certainly Celery. Today was the day I hadset aside tomake some SU samples with Happy Heart Day, and I’ll tell you — these were NOT the colors I had in mind — not in the LEAST!!! But, I love to play the challenges and today I had time, so I used these colors andturned what was supposed to be a girly and pinkValentine into a Boy Valentine.

I colored the main image with my SU makers, coloring right over the little flower on the heart. I put a punched star over the flower since I wanted a boy valentine. I had a hard time making these colors work together, so I resorted to my no-fail emergency method of adding some black. Black usually does the trick for me, pulling together colors that I don’t seem to be able to pull together myself. Plus, being a boy card, black works!!! I gave the little mouse black pants and stripe on his sweather to tie it all in. Matting just the corner of the main image in black avoided the heaviness that often comes by using too much black, especially on a light-hearted cardlike this. Just enough to offset the image and make it pop!

  • Stamps: Happy Heart Day
  • Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White, Taken with Teal, Real Red, Certainly Celery Prints Designer Paper
  • Ink: Black Stazon. Markers in above colors plus Regal Rose (cheeks) and Sahara Sand (body and outline).
  • Accessories: Ribbon, Small Star Punch, Brads, Crafter’s Tool Kit.

Well, I need to clean my house now, but I hope to make the girly, pink Valentine I originally had in mind later today — so pleae check back if you are interested in SU samples. That’s what I’ll be doing for the next couple of days — and, of course, with Valentine’s Day approaching, I will also be uploading shortly with Flourishes’ newest release which is that drop-dead gorgeous flourishy heart!!! I have a couple fun ideas in mind for that heart that I hope I can pull off!!! Thanks for stopping in!!! Hope you are all having a great New Year’s Day!!!

FOR SALE: Oh, I almost forgot — I have listed a bunch of SU sets for sale, which will be officially ready for sale and shipment tomorrow, 1/02. They are listed on the tab at the top of the page called For Sale. Feel free to take a look!
