January Workshop

jan-workshop-gift-cards-540-wm-notime.jpg

Well, I’m all set for my 1st workshop for 2008 so I thought I’d show you what I have planned. The 3 cards above, made with the Cuttlebug and Scor-Pal, will be part of the Hostess Gift for my hostess. Now,I can just see some of you SU demos shaking your heads, wondering why I am featuring something with the Cuttlebug and Scor-Pal. Well, let me explain. I always try to personalize my Hostess Gifts, making something for the hostess that I know (hope, anyway) that she will enjoy. This hostess has a Cuttlebug, which she rarely uses — as is the case with many of my other customers who will be attending. I want them to use and enjoy the fun things that they have. By showing them these quick and simple cards, I’m hoping they will feel inspired to create themselves and use their tools and other supplies. And I know this hostess appreciates receiving ready made cards, so I hope she likes these!!!

Again, these are what I’m calling my Cuttle-Pal cards — SO quick and easy. For this set I used the full size hearts folder. I inserted only 2″ of the paper into the folder and ran it though the Cuttlebug like that. Then flip it over, wrong side up, lay it on your Scor-Pal with theembossed edge on the 2″ mark, and score at 4 1/4 and 4 1/2. When you flip it over it should look like the cards above. So quick and easy!!! The oval tags are just adhered with Dimensionals. Words are from Warm Words. Paper and ribbon is Regal Rose. (I’ve edited this post to add a photo on how to put the paper in the Cuttlebug — see end of post)

This is a little candy treat bag I also made for my hostess, filled with Valentine M & M’s. Again, I used the Cuttlebug to create the embossed hearts so it would coordinate with the set of cards. To create the topper I first stapled the Regal Rose piece to the bag to keep everything together. My white piece, which is folded on top,is the same on the back as on the front. I kept it folded before inserting it into the embossing folder, so it embossed both the back and front at the same time. Now normally when you do this, the front is EMbossed and the back is DEbossed. However, with THIS folder, both sides came the same. When you study the design, you will see that the alternating hearts are embossed and debossed (one raised up, one sunk in), so the back side is never *wrong*, so to speak — I don’t know if I’m explaining this right — hope you get what I mean! The *thanks* is from Much Appreciated. Again, Regal Rose ribbon.

These are the 2 cards we’ll be doing at the workshop, and I’m not going into great detail on either as they are very similar to other recent uploads I have done here. The elephant card (Happy Heart Day) is pretty much the same as a recent upload, I just cut a few corners to make it easier for a workshop. There is no scallop border on the green strip, the background covers most of the card, allowingme to wrap my ribbon behind this panel, rather than wrap it around the entire card as on the previous upload seen here. And this card has a Celery base, which I like better than the previous card.

The baby boy card (Nursery Necessities) is kind of a masculine remake of this card previously done in pinks, but incorporating aspects of this card and this card.

jan-workshop-cb-folder.jpg

(I’m editing this post to include the above photo as it was apparently unclear what I meant when I said to insert only 2″ of paper into the folder — can you see now? 2″ on the right side of your paper is inserted into the folder, and run through the Cuttlebug like this. Hope this clears it up!)

Well, I guess that’s it!! I’m looking forward to my first workshop with the new catalog!!! Hope everyone enjoys it!!! And THANK YOU so much for stopping in here — I truly do apprecite it!!! Thanks everyone!!!

Sharon, you and I are on the same wave length so very often!!! Talk about GMTA!!! I’m having a Stamp Camp on Thursday, and we’re making 2 each of 5 designs: 2 Valentine (4 cards), 2 Birthday (4 cards), and 1 Thank You (2 cards). One of the Valentines is white CB hearts on Real Red with red ribbon and a “Love” charm. This one is similar to your first card posted here. Then, the following Thursday is another club workshop, and for my non-card item, we’re filling little plastic bags with Valentine M&M’s and making toppers!!! I’ve bought the M&M’s but haven’t made my samples yet. When I get all 5 of my Stamp Camp designs done, I’ll post them, and when I get my samples done for my 3rd Thursday Club, I’ll post them too! You did give me some ideas for my candy toppers!!! Thanks!

  49. Linda says:

These are just beautiful! Your hostess will LOVE them! I’m with you…I share tools that I love regardless if SU sells it or not. I find that my customers take my word for it when I tell them that our cardstock is superior (as they know that I would recommend something else if it wasn’t). I say get people crafting and using the tools they have, then they will be papercrafters forever!

    Linda

Silly question… on the treat bag, how do you adhere the top to the bag? Do you staple it on the first layer and glue the embossed part on top of it to hide them?

I am making 10 treat bags and don’t know how to adhere my tops to the bag! Everything is such a learning curve! Hugs, michelle
