Baby Shower Decor
I had no intention of starting a project like this today, but — Jen just HAD to post a super fun TLC today at SCS — it was to make those little fortune teller things we made as kids, only to use them as candy dishes — well, it was just what I needed today — a candy dish — LOL!!! But truly, I did!!! This will be a little gift, and it is JUST the perfect gift for what I need!!! Thanks, Jen!!! Here it is:
This was made to coordinate with many other things I’ve done with Nursery Necessities. A friend is making both baby shower invites and baby shower thank yous, so I made this to coordinate with them, thinking she may be able to use it at the shower, or make more if she likes. I made the base with a sheet of 12 x 12 So Saffron, so this is large. It measures 6 1/2″ across the top. If you follow the linksfrom the Try a New Technique Challenge, you will find both written instructions and photos, which come from Martha Stewart. It’s just like those silly little finger things we made as kids — there was a message written on each little section — remember?
Anyway, once mine was made, remember now, mine is large, I cut four 2 1/4″ square pieces of So Saffron DP and mounted them on 2 1/2″ pieces of Bashful Blue, then adhered them to the four outside sections as shown. Then using the same measurements, I made the 4 boat sections. I then *connected* them with brads to the panels with the DP, so it looks like my dish base has 8 peaks now, rather than four. This dish is super solid and sturdy, first because it is made with the heavy weight SU cardstock, and second because it is further *secured* with the connecting boat pieces using the brads.
The center post is a pencil covered in DP. The top istwo 3″ circles decorated with moon and stars. They are stuck together with the fat Pop Dots from Wal-mart. That allows room for the pencil in between. The bow is stuck on top with Mini Glue Dots. The moon is punched with a 1 3/8″ punch for the inner circle and a 2″ punch (or Coluzzle) for the outer circle. It is outlined with a glue pen and covered with Dazzling Diamonds, as are the small stars on the circle. The large star is stamped in blue, punched with the star punch, smooshed into the Versa Mark pad, then embossed with Iridescent Ice. The blue ring on the post is supposed to be an inner tube (boat theme — get it?), but I know, it really doesn’t look much like an inner tube. After it was all put together, I realize I should have stamped *it’s a boy* on the tube, but I didn’t want to take it apart. Oh well —

- Paper: 12 x 12 So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Whisper White, So Saffron Prints DP
- Ink: Black Stazon, Bashful Blue, So Saffron, Versa Mark, and markers in same colors
- Accessories: Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, Glue Pen, Dazzling Diamonds, Blue Taffeta, Brads, Star Punch, Round Punches in 1/2″, 1 3/8″, 2″, 3″ (or Coluzzle), Sponge, Pop Dots, Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots
I think that pretty well explains it!!! Fun challenge, and if you don’t decorate as much as I did, these really do go together quickly!!! Thanks again for stopping in — have a great Monday!!!
