Stamp Simply #49 – Foreground/Background

Keyword ssnotime49 -There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload yourproject at Splitcoastand/or your Blog, anytime at all! You (and that means anyone and everyone, blogger or not!)can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.

Today’s Challenge: To me, a part of keeping a card simple is not having to get out a ton ofsets to make the card. I often like to use the same stampfor themain image as for the background, and that’s our challengefor today.Use the same stamp for the focal point main image AND for the background. That should make it nice and simple!!! Cant wait to see what you doand, as always, do try to keep it simple. Most importantly have fun!!!

Our Stamp Simply Team is smaller today, what with vacations andallthat summer entails!!! But arent they FABULOUS!!! Thank you girls!!! Much appreciated!!! Becky will be back soon!!!

Heres my card for today’s challenge, and on first glance you may not think it is simple, but it IS, and I’ll take it step-by-step below:

49-foreback-480-wm-notime.jpg

  • Stamps: Retired SU DD Ferns and Season by Season.
  • Paper: PTI White, SU Marigold Morning (retired), Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Perfect Plum.
  • Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black, plus above SU colors, and retired SU Spectrum Pad in Late November.
  • Accessories: Wide Wired Ribbon, Eyelet, Cropadile, Hemp, Aged Copper Hodgepodge Hardware (SU), Leaf Punch by McGill, SU Tag Corner Punch, Piercer, Mat Pack, Black Pen, Sponge.

Two things I used to do a lot of and haven’t done much of lately is to use the same stamp for both the foreground and background, as we are today, and sponging. I LOVE to sponge, but sort of got away from it, so today’s card has some sponging on it — I think it kind of adds a warm, fallish feel, and though today was hot, we have had that definite feel of fall in the air here already!!! It IS coming!!! Here’s a step-by-step on this card.

  1. Stamp fern as background on card, tone-on-tone, sponge edges.
  2. Stamp fern on Navy panel, tone-on-tone, sponge edges.
  3. Stamp fern on White panel, using Spectrum pad.
  4. Stamp Sentiment on White and make into tag.
  5. Punch 2 leaves, draw in veins, sponge edges, tie them together. (Plum was a scrap that had been stamped with SU Paisley.)
  6. Wrap ribbon around card front and tie nice big bow, neatly trimming tail ends, and attach sentiment tag with hemp.
  7. Adhere main image panel and Navy panel to card, using hardware as accent if desired.
  8. Adhere leaves on top.
  9. I had too much dead space on the lower right and the card looked off balance, so I added the 2 rows of piercing as an after thought, basically to balance things out more.
  10. That’s it — done — all simple steps, just take them one at a time!

And before you leave, how about stopping over to see Libby and wish her a Happy Birthday today — HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LIBBY!!!! And once you are there, be sure to check out her Thursday Challenge, Courtney’s Closet— probably the most innovative and FUN challenge out there! Each week Libby dresses up her darling Courtney in a cute outfit, takes her pic, and posts it as our inspiration. How fun!!! I LOVE her dress this week and I WILL be playing!!! 3. Hey chickie! I love the autumnal feel of your card. So relaxing and serene! Fall is my favorite time of year. You are too lucky too to have all that color right at your fingertips! I miss that being here in Montana! We get oranges and yellows but no purples and reds! I digress! Lovely card my friend!! 🙂

    Sharon,
What a beautiful fall card! We northerners will soon be seeing all those beautiful colors. I already notice some of our leaves with hints of changes.

I love how you stamped the background with the same stamp as your focal point. The addition of the dark purple leaf makes this card “jump”. It is just beautiful!!!
