Becca’s Medallion
I could not pass up the opportunity today to make one of these gorgeous medallions designed by Becca Feeken. Gee, Becca is in the limelight a lot lately – and it is so well deserved. She has major talent and designs such beautiful creations!!! This medallion was the subject of the The Learning Challengetoday over at SCS. So I played!!! Find instructions for this medallion here.
It is so incredibly easy to create this type of punched medallion — it really amazed me. But of course, easy as it was, I made a mistake. But I decided to use my *mistake* rather than toss it, and that’s always a good feeling! Can anyone see where I went wrong in the creation of this medallion? Yes, I know those of you who played today will see it instantly!!! LOL!!! These medallions should have 8 punches — this has 7. I did my first test run on a circle cut just a tad larger, and I should have stuck with that. Instead, I was *sure* I could fit my 8 punches on the circle the next size down — using Nesties, that isn’t a whole lot smaller. Well, it didn’t work, and I realized that right away, butkept on a-punching. There is a gap in the bottom center, which I just hid with the bow!!! I think it was a pretty good save!!! And a good save always makes me happy — LOL!!! Here’s a close up of the medallion.
See my gap hidden with the bow? Next time I’ll do it right! The background circle is stamped with SU’s Floral b/g and then overstamped with SU’s Linen b/g. The flowers were then traced over with a Sakura Quickie Glue Pen and sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds — very glittery IRL!!! I put pearls on the flower centers first, then finished the perimeter off with darker pearls. Fun card to make — I will definitely be doing these medallions more often and also with different punches for a different look. Sharon, this card is absolutely gorgeous! Love the pink and “the gap” looks like it was purposely placed! Love it!
For what it’s worth, I actually think it looks better with “the gap.” Very well done!
Your card is so great. I love the pink and brown combo. I wound up with 7 punches instead of 8 and liked that it gave a way to add the ribbon-yours looks like it is supposed to be that way. tfs

Excellent save, Sharon! It looks just like it’s supposed to be that way. This is so absolutely, over-the-top gorgeous! I just LOVE it! I love seeing something non-seasonal this time of year, too. Feminine and lovely in pink and ribbon–so pretty! I tried one of these medallions after I saw it on Becca’s blog and I was surprised at how easy it really is. My (wise beyond his years) 9 year old son always says “there’s no mistakes” – and I think it’s good to force yourself to figure out how to fit it into the design – I find it’s usually even better than planned- just how yours turned out!

Amazing job! I think you did a fabulous job, even with the gap. I would have never noticed anything was wrong…I really love Becca’s style.. I think you did her medallion just perfectly.

Beautiful card! I actually like the space at the bottom! It’s the perfect place for the bow and it really looks pretty with the space.

I think it’s perfect with 7 punches and a spot for a lovely bow! I know exactly what you mean about the saves – I always joke that most of my cards are an exercise in covering up SOME mistake! My stamping mantra (excuse) is ” I meant to do that”. Heh, heh. Great card. I just love that technique and have done a couple of cards. As easy as it is, I still have trouble transferring the markings so that they are equidistant…oh well, I meant to do that.
What a beautiful idea and card. My list of “to do’s” is getting longer. I really like it with 7 punches so I can easily attach the bow!

Sharon I love this card and of course I had to try it right away.
I have a question, what white ink do you use? I am not please with white craft from Stampin’ Up or StazOn opaque. Not enough white.
Is your ink, paper trey canvas? Or do I need lessons??
