Stampin’ in the U.P. of Michigan ’09

Published by at 4 11 pm under Events/Gatherings

Busy weekend — GREAT FUN!!!!  This past Friday and Saturday some of our local girls hosted the 2nd Annual Stampin’ in the U.P. of Michigan event here in Baraga, way up on the shores of Lake Superior.  It seems you plan and plan, and in the blink of an eye it’s over — sad to be done, but many good memories were made and there’s much to look forward to for next year.  I’d like to share a few photos with you.

These 3 wonderful ladies and good friends, along with Deb who snuck out before photo time, came to visit me on Friday morning and we had a nice lunch together and lots of fun and laughs.  This photo was taken on our front porch.  Don’t they make the loveliest picture!!!!

Friday afternoon started with registration for the event and browsing at the “store”.  Joan transported Joan’s Garden all the way from Indiana and I brought over the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, a much shorter journey (7 miles to be exact)!  We were so busy from the moment we set up and opened our doors that I didn’t get a photo – I surely wish that I had.  I only have one picture, and it’s of some Ribbon Streamers I made.  I gathered up like/coordinating ribbons in 1 1/4 or 1 1/3 yd lengths and sewed them together on top for easy and fun presentation and then sold each little bunch as a Ribbon Streamer.  They were fun to make and I love looking at them.  A nice variety of ribbons in each Streamer.  Here’s what they looked like:

I have a couple of each left, so if anyone is interested, just email me ([email protected]) and I can send you better pictures of any one you’d like to see along with prices, lengths, etc.  I do have plenty more of the Halloween ones made up and they are available in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, page 3, along with the other Halloween items.

Friday evening continued with dinner, some challenges and free stamp time and socializing.

Saturday morning started with breakfast at 8:00 and a card swap at 9:00.  I have a few random photos of the card swap to show you:

These happy ladies picking up some swap cards are all from Baraga and Houghton Counties.

Gosh, people sure get happy picking up their swaps cards, don’t they!  Here we have travellers from Marquette County as well as some local girls.

Another happy bunch of swappers!  Our fartherst traveller in this bunch was from St. Ignace, right by *The Bridge*.  We also had people attending from Kentucky, Indiana and Wisconsin.

Deb with Charlene, setting up for Deb’s Copic lessons

A soon as the swaps were over, Deb did a Copic Coloring demo. (Be sure to check out Deb’s Blog to see the amazing work she does with her Copics!)  But it was far more than a demo.  She used a newly released image called Happy Birthday (released just THAT day, how special were we!) from Our Daily Bread Designs.   It was a gorgeous watering can filled with flowers — a rather detailed image for so many who have never colored with Copics.  Deb took them 3 at a time and worked one on one with the girls ALL day long.  She did a fabulous job and everyone left with THE most gorgeous images.  I then took the girls with their colored images and showed them how to make a really quick but still eye-appealing card using minimal layers, minimal cuts, using DP, Silk Ribbon and the Bow Easy (of course!)  LOL!!!  I must say the cards were SO stunning — each and every one of them — and, much to my dismay, I have no photos and no card to show you.  Perhaps if Deb and I can get together, I can get an image from her and make it up to show you what the girls all did.  I’ll work on that!  I really would LOVE to show you as the results were SO stunning!!!

Here’s one group hard at work coloring their images.   See how hard they’re concentrating?

Next on the agenda was the Shoe Box Swap – a favorite of so many.  I have a few candids to share:

Above and below we have some girls eagerly digging into their projects, and on the right above we have our fearless leader, JoAnn, trying to get everyone’s attention.  We ALL know what it’s like to get a roomful of women to be quiet and listen — LOL!!!

And the day ended with the dispensing of prizes.  Everyone brought a 3-D project they had made and everyone went home with one someone else had made – FUN!!!

Thanks so much for this little visit –I only wish you could have joined us this weekend.  I’ll be back next with a Christmas project featuring the fun Flower Soft products.  That should pop up on Monday — hope to see you then — thanks much for stopping in and have a great rest of the weekend!

  1. What fun! Wish I could have been there!

  2. JoAnn says:

Yes, it was fun. I’m glad it was an economically positive experience for you.
Before many more people are invited, we haven’t decided for sure if we are going to go bigger or keep the smaller intimate group. However, I am not the ~fearless leader~ so that is yet to be determined in our debriefing.

I sure would love to attend some year.

Wow! Sounds like a lot of fun. I’m green with envy. We do a little shoebox swap here locally with 5 stampers and it’s such fun and the best part is to leave with so many cards (we each design two and make enough for everyone to leave with two of each design). But a whole weekend? Positively wonderful!

  5. Deb says:

Oh! This looks SO fun! I just wish the last week of July didn’t always end up crammed with everything all at once!

  6. That looks & sounds like so much fun. I live in Green Bay now but am from Iron Mountain (in the UP). If you ever let others attend, I would be interested. Thanks for sharing!!

  7. WOW, looks like you gals had a blast!!!! Too bad you guys are soooooooo far away from where I am at :C. Oh well!!! I’ll just get happy seeing what gorgeous creations you guys shared. I’ll shoot you an e-mail about some of that gorgeous ribbon ;P. Hugs, Sabrina

The picture of Jackie, Charlene and Joan is lovely indeed Sharon! I wish I could see your entire porch; the flowers are gorgeous! You all look like you had a fabulous event, I wish I could have been there. And, oh my, are all those Copics Deb’s? I’m so happy the event was a success for all of you!

What a dream weekend for you.
This past April, I visited my sister who is 6 1/2 hrs away, and in 4 days we took seven card classes at her local store, Buffalo Stamps and Stuff. At the end, we were seriously sleep deprived (we were staying up til 2 or so to work on our own projects), we could hardly move and our eyes were crossed, but, I guarentee you, it was some of our best times together. And we learned so much! Thanks for sharing your special time. Your flowers are an inspiration, too.

  10. Welcome back … so glad you had a great time! LOVE the photo of Jackie, Charlene & Joan on your front porch … your flowers are gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing the fun time with us … great photos!

WAUW it sure looks like, you had an amazing week-end. I wish there would be such arrangements here in Denmark, where I live, but we have nothing like this at all, and my stamping is just what I´ve tought my self, or read about on the internet. Oh boy I would have loved to participate in such an arrangement.
Great pics, but as you say yourself, a shame, there wasn´t a few more to show all about the classes he he he.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

    Sharon,
First of all thank you so much for a wonderful lunch and vist at your home. That was a fun treat and good food! We enjoyed it so much.

What a fantastic weekend! It was great seeing so many of the gals that I met last year and meeting new friends too. Deb’s Copic training class was terrific and your “stamp simply” calss was super I learned a lot from both of you.

JoAnn and “crew” did a wonderful job planning everything and I loved every minute of it. Jackie did too. We truly apprecaite being able to be a part of the gathering the last two years.
