Stamp Simply #117 – Alter a Purchased Card

Published by at 2 08 am under Christmas Cards,JustRite Products

Alter a Purchased Card – If you don’t have your Christmas cards done yet, it’s crunch time!  How about altering a store bought card to give it that hand made look and feel.  You can use a newly purchased card and alter it with a family photo, some embellishments, a stamped image — whatever!  OR you may take an old card, cut out portions you like, and use them to create a new card.  Just get some element on your card that WAS store bought at one time!!!  Fun!!!!

Keyword ssnotime117 – There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload your project at Splitcoast and/or your Blog, anytime at all. You (and that means anyone and everyone, blogger or not!) can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.

Check out the great samples for the Stamp Simply Challenge today on the blogs of these fabulous designers:

Please bear with us all as we each upload and link on Thursday night.  Everyone should be up and set by Friday morning.

And here’s my altered store bought card for this week:

Well, if this wasn’t quick and fun, taking advantage of a pretty Christmas card I received in the mail this week from a customer — thank you Helene!  Can you tell which is the store-bought portion?  Here are my layers:

117-altered-store-layers-360-279.jpg

Layer 1– starting from the bottom — my card base.  This card is 7.5 x 5.25″.  SU Very Vanilla cardstock, the edges outlined with my Krylon 18 kt. Gold Leafing Pen — SUPER easy to do.  Working on scrap paper, push your pen tip (like a wide marker) into the edge of the paper and draw the pen towards you.  The felt-like pen tip catches on the edge of the paper and your line comes perfectly straight, every time!!!

Layer 2– I cut a panel of plain cardstock 1/4″ smaller than the card base and covered it completely with DP.  I used Dear Santa by Kaiser.  I made use of the text on the DP, using it as added visual interest on top.  Then I wrapped 1.5″ Burgundy Striped Ribbon around the panel front, adhering on the back.

Layer 3 – This is the front of a purchased card that I cut off.  I loved the gold scalloped accent on it and knew that edging my panels with the Krylon 18 kt. Gold Leafing Pen would blend all my layers together nicely.

Layer 4 – This is a single layer sentiment I made by gold embossing a sentiment and border from A Merry Little Christmas by JustRite.  My only stamping, and quickly done!  This was cut using my Petite Circle Nestabilities by Spellbinders.

Here’s a closer look at both the gold embossed sentiment/border from A Merry Little Christmas and at the two layers that I edged with the Krylon 18 kt. Gold Leafing Pen.

Thanks so much for stopping in tonight.  Hope you have time to play with us this week as we all try to finish up those cards we all need!  We are giving Mr. Linky a run tonight, so please link to Mr. Linky below and we’ll see how we like it!  I think it’ll be easier for us all to check out each others projects.

Editing:  I’m posting early tonight as I’m trying to get Mr. Linky to work — he is challenging me — I’ll keep trying —

Editing again:  Well, it’s Sunday now, but I think I FINALLY got Mr. Linky to work.  Due to my type of blog, the list only shows once clicked — so click on Mr. Linky, then you’ll see the list and place to add yours!

Hi Sharon, This was a fun challenge. It is amazing what can be done with a “plain” store bought card to make it more personal.

I haven’t played along in a while … I ended up recycling the backs of last year’s office holiday cards for my design … the papers were such good quality, I just flipped them over and stamped on the backs.
