Stamp Simply Ribbon Store Blog Hop

Welcome to The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store’s  2nd Blog Hop.  So glad to have you here!

blogheader30910-purple.jpg

Holly challenged us all this month to create a 3D or altered item — talk about fun!  Wait until you see them all — you are in for one HUGE treat!!!  For my project today I decided to alter some items and make a fun sewing set.  This would be a fun item to make as a gift for a friend — either piece or even all three!  Take a look:

sewing-kit-all-400-394.jpg

I had some hotpads that you can see in the background that inspired me.  I thought how fun to give someone a small handmade gift and some sewing items to go with!  This is also somewhat of a recycling project.  The bucket had another purpose at one time and the pincushion was made from a recycled tin, very similar in size to a tuna fish can.  My card is the only thing that is all brand new!

hot-pads-400-298.jpg

Here’s a better look at the inspiration hot pads!  They were hand made and from a craft show, but beyond that, I’m not sure who made them.  I got them from a friend and totally love them!!!  When I realized I had a few things here in my stash that would match and work to create a gift project, I was elated!!!

pin-cushion-400-376.jpg

I started by covering a small recycled tin with paper from A Proper Gentlmen, by Graphic 45.  LOVE that paper for guy-themed projects, but it worked equally as well here today.  To make my pin cushion I just cut a square of fabric from my stash, maybe 8 or 10″ square, wadded up a good large few handlfuls of polyester fiberbill, wrapped the fabric around the fiberfill, tied off the bottom with a rubber band, applied glue from a hot glue gun around the interior rim of the can and inserted my *cushion*.  Worked like a charm and just took a couple minutes!  Using a narrow double sided tape, I just ran it around the top of the can, first gluing on my Crochet Lace, pleating it each inch or so as I went around.  I ran 5/8″ Twill above that.  I made the bow using my Bow Easy and glued them on using Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue.  Instant pin cushion, quick and easy, and I had fun sticking in my pins!  This could easily be made out of a tuna fish can.

bucket-360-480.jpg

I received a gift one time in this bucket and had to keep it!  I just filled my bucket with a variety of sewing items and adhered the Crochet Lace and Twill just as explained above.  Super quick and easy and even a fun way to organize a few of your own supplies you may want to keep out for quick reach!  Again, the 5/8″ Twill bow was made with the Bow Easy and glued on.

card-400-407.jpg

And finally here’s my mini 4 x 4 gift card.  This is my first using of A Proper Gentlemen, an 8 x 8 pad by Graphic 45!  Totally LOVE this stuff!!!  There are a ton of GREAT guy-type papers in the pad, but I think these worked beautifully today for my sewing themed project.  I love the classic designs.  Another thing I’m loving about these Graphic 45 pads (I have 3 variety of pads by Graphic 45) is they have several sheets of images that can be cut out and used much as I use the Journal Notes.  GREAT idea to incorporate such fun images into a paper pad with coordinated papers!

The focal image is from Stitched with Love by JustRite, a set I’m really becoming addicted to!   It fits the 2 3/8″ Round Stamper and has 6 fun centers and borders with a sewing theme.  The centers can be quickly colored, which is fun!

jr-stitched-w-love-300-450.jpg

Here’s the graphics of Stitched with Love so you can see what I mean.  It sells for $14.95 and the 2 3/8″ Round Stamper is sold separately for $10.95.  This set is sure to get a lot of use in my stamp room!  I’ve made other projects with it here and here.
