A WINNER and a Christmas Ornament KIT

Published by at 11 03 pm under Uncategorized

First of all,  let’s tend to the Blog Candy Winner from the Stamp Simply Blog Hop earlier this week.  Barb Schram’s blog was selected as the blog from which to choose the winner, so let’s go on over to Explore. Dream. Discover. to see who won this assortment of red and white ribbon: (and as an added bonus you get to see Barb’s mouth-wateringly DELISH baby project — OH, SO SWEET!!!)

Thanks to all who hopped along, looked and left comments.  We hope you were in some little way inspired to create something fun yourself.  Many thanks for coming!!!

Today is Saturday (still, I think!) and I use Saturday’s to try to show you new product I’ve received during the week.  I was delighted beyond delight to get these alterable ornaments in this week.  Remember the Christmas Stockings from last week?  Yes, same type of alterable — I’ve been calling these chipboard, and truly they aren’t — they are much heavier, beefier and are actually MDF board — a super nice weight for these projects.

The alterable ornaments are by Kaisercraft, come 4 to a pack and are intended as an alterable album.  Well, I prefer to use them individually and make ornaments to be used as tags on bags, for the tree or anywhere you might hang a little something.  Again, these would make GREAT quick and inexpensive teacher or girlfriend gifts.  Take a look at my first attempt:

All product links are at the end of this post.

For this project I used the 12 x 12 Glad Tidings pad by K & Company.  A 6″ sheet won’t quite cover the ornament without piecing it, so I took the easy route and just used a larger sheet!  The ball portion is 5″ round and with the topper it is just over6″ high.   My bow is 2″ Wide Stripes and I just wrapped the ribbon around the topper and hand tied the bow.  It took just about 1 yard to do this large bow.  The small to/from tag was punched with an SU ornament punch and the to/from is from Classic Christmas by Wordsworth.

I’m using the ornament as a tag on this brown handled bag I covered in another sheet from the same pad, but it can be easily removed and used by the recipient.  The bag is 8″ x 10.5″, plus the handles.  The tag is tied onto the bag handle with 1/2″ Wrinkled Ribbon that you don’t see.

These are SO fun, quick and easy.  I started by sanding the edge of the ornament to make it smooth (I just use a purchased *sander* from the nail care section), and then I *painted* the edge with a Copic in a color to coordinate with my paper.  I traced the ornament shape onto the paper, cut it out and adhered with Mod Podge.  Mod Podge really works well for this type of project.  I then took my sander again and finished off the ragged paper edges that weren’t cut quite perfectly.  Don’t worry about tracing and cutting exactly perfect — you can fix it all with your sander, ending up with a perfectly tight and smooth edge.

These ornaments would be fun to make with any type of holiday paper you might have, but if you’d like to replicate this project, I’ve put toghether a KIT for a simple purchase:

Stamp Simply Glad Tidings Ornament KIT – $25.50

Completed ornament is NOT included – in photo for sample purposes ONLY.

Items are also available individually:

Pack of 4 Ornaments by Kaisercraft – $4.99

12 x 12 Glad Tidings Pad (36 double sided sheets)  - $13.50

4 yards 2″ Wide Stripes – 2 Burgundy, 2 Hunter

2 yards 1/2″ Wrinkled Ribbon – Burgundy

10 yards Natural String

These KIT contents will allow you to make 4 ornaments similar to my sample above.  You’ll have a TON of paper leftover when you are done for many more holiday projects.

As a Kit add-on, I do have those 10.5″ x 8″ Brown Paper Handled Bags if you need some — $ .50 each.    Just ask.
