Ruched Silk Sympathy

Today I needed to make a sympathy card for a lovely lady who passed after a long life, so I wanted the card to be soft and pretty.  It was the perfect time to try out ribbon ruching with my wide silk and to use my newest sympathy set from JustRite.  Here’s the result:

This card is 6.25″ x 4.5″.  I made it to fit into the Clear Box that I’ll be giving it in (see below).  The paper used is from the Webster’s Pages Hollywood Vogue/Wonderfall 6×6 pad.  I have this pad available individually or in KIT form.

I love the arch detail on this sheet with the delicate white rose.  I created my own corner detail on the right using Spellbinders Flourish Accent dies.  The sentiment is cut on one of my favorite go-to dies — Labels Four Nesties.  All detail is accented with Kaiser Pearls in Bliss.

This is my first successful attempt at ribbon ruching in this fashion.  I followed the lovely tutorial written by Jerri Kay.  Jerri used a very narrow piece of silk and she bunched it all up very tight.  I used the 1.25″ Wide Silk  and left it rather loose.  This truly was very easy and quick following Jerri’s guidelines.  I will add that I tried this last week with the 1/2″ Wrinkled Ribbon and I gave up.  It is too tightly woven a ribbon to get at a thread that will easily pull.  When trying with this 100% May Arts Silk, it was a world of difference.  It only took a few seconds to do the piece for this card — I was one happy camper!  Be sure to check out Jerri’s tutorial linked above.  My bow above was made using the Bow Easy.

This is the inside that I decorated up a bit with some more of the coordinating paper.  I used a Martha Stewart Punch for the scalloped edges.

A question I get all the time is, “How do you give or mail a card like that?”.  Well, this is how I will bring this card to the funeral home.  I have inserted it into a Clear Box that totally protects the silk, bow and Primas (Fairytale Roses in French White).  It arrives in perfect condition — just like when I finished making it.  The PERFECT solution.  This box is A6 sized and I made the card to fit the box.  I also have these boxes in our standard US A2 size.  These can also be sent through mail.

This is my first use of JustRite’s Sympathy Nested Sentiments ($14.95), a definite go-to set for sympathy cards from here on out.  This set requires the Clear Rectangles Stampers ($23.95) and I can’t express enough how I LOVE those clear rectangles.  Being able to see through is wonderful!

I do realize many are still unfamiliar with the JustRite Original line of products.  Hoping this helps some to visualize it better.  The stamps have a grooved back that snap into a like grooved surface on the stamper, holding it totally secure.  The system is totally interchangeable, so any set designed to fit the Clear Rectangle Stampers can be used with these Stampers.  Anyone who follows me knows how much I’m loving these Nested Sentiments— there are SO many and I’m getting good use of them all!
