Well, I sure had a fun evening last night.  I pulled out some new things and played around – LONG overdue! These particular tag dies by Elizabeth Craft had caught my eye so, of course, I had to order them! What appealed to me about these tag dies is that they have no bottom, allowing you make them as long or as short as you like.  If you’re using 12″ paper, make a 12″ tag if you like.  I thought that was just genius!  They have 3 selections and I did get them all, but only used one set today. I have quite a few pictures, so please bear with me!  Here we go:

This is the die set I used today – Tags & More 3 – Leaves

The paper used for all tags below is DIY Christmas by Simple Stories.

All ink used is VersaFine – Onyx Black and Smoke Grey.

All bows were made on the Original Bow Easy.

I started by playing with the dies and made 4 tag bases.

If you look at the arched tag die in the photo above this, you can see there is no bottom.  Cut with the die as you usually would. Then you have to go to your paper cutter, line up the edges, and cut.  It is 3 1/4″ wide.  I suppose if you cut an exact 3 1/4″ strip you could just cut the top, but I just cut the top first, then trimmed the sides. I may fiddle with trying to use a 3 1/4″ strip next time. I was using a 6″ paper pad, so my tags are all 5 – 6″.

The first – dots – is using just the arched shape, nothing more. Simple and functional.

The second – chevron – is using 2 layers. After cutting the chevron tag, I placed the leaves on top and cut them out. Then I cut another plain arched tag as the backer. I raised it up a bit when adhering to give the tag top a bit of definition.

The third – chalkboard – I also cut the leaves out of my white backing, then offset that layer a bit when adhering and I really loved that shadow look.

The last – newsprint – I just backed my front layer with a plain white tag.

When you are cutting the tags, you get all the negative little leaf pieces that could be used as well, but I didn’t today.

Just a closer look at the tag where I offset the two tags with cutout leaves and got the shadow effect.  This was so easy and I LOVE the result!

Now on to my finished tags. Each is totally different from the next.

I like to buy and give packages of paper napkins during the holidays. A simple little “thank you” when you go to a neighbors for coffee and pie! I made this tag to match this napkin package. The fish-tail on the tag was hand cut.

Now here’s the tag with the shadowed leaves on top, and wouldn’t you know I would go and cover them all up with ribbon — go figure!

Once again, the fish tails are hand cut.

This ones’ a little fancier. I really like the crisp white leaves on top.
