Creating with Flowers – by Sharon Johnson

Good Memorial Day Monday Morning!

May we all remember the reason today is a national holiday.

Our deepest thanks and praise to those who so selflessly served and died to protect OUR freedoms.

__________

I have 2 cards to share today.  I made one as a birthday card and the other as a wedding card, but these designs could be used for just about any occasion or reason. They are so pretty and easy to whip up.

I used packaged Prima flowers as my focal point and packaged these cards into Clear Boxes.

The Clear Boxes are perfect for both protection and presentation! A must have.

These cards are both 6.5 x 4.75″ and fit perfectly into an A6 Clear Box.

My inspiration for these cards was THIS CARD by Holly.

BirthdayFloralREDO3 500x414

This card was pretty much a re-make of Holly’s pretty card.

I LOVE this simple layout.

The flowers are Prima, the leaves are die cut.

Here’s the inside of the birthday card.

I really love this card for a wedding design, but I messed up, and here’s why —

I typically use a heavy weight white cardstock for my card base.

As I made this card as a class card, I was trying to make my life easier by using precut/prescored cards purchased in bulk to save myself prep time for the class. Well, that was a mistake. The cardstock was just too thin for this design requiring a bit more glue than normal. And I will tell you, I have a tendency to be heavy handed when applying glue in the first place. I like things to stick on TIGHT!  LOL!!!

My combination of heavy glue and thin cardstock resulted in the paper warping on top. Can you see?

There would have been 2 fixes (better options) to this problem.

  1.  Use the heavier white cardstock I always use, OR

2.  Glue my flowers down lower so they would have been on TOP of the woodgrain panel for more strength.

So anyway, just sharing my boo-boos with you!

Love You 6x6 500x500

PS I Love You by Kaisercraft

(Paper Collection, Die Cut Collectables and coordinating Stamp Set all in stock)

This paper pad was used for the birthday card.

I don’t recall which pad was used for the wedding card – but ANY of the pads by Kaisercraft work beautifully for these types of projects.  May I suggest:  Always & Forever, Cottage Rose, Mademoiselle, Ooh La La

As always, we all LOVE our Kaisercraft!

Find all Kaisercraft in this 6.5″ size here.

Foliage S4-328

Foliage by Spellbinders

This is one of the most-used dies by our Design Team over the years. The foliage options are just perfect for so many projects. Sadly this has been retired by Spellbinders.  I have just a handful in stock, so when they are gone, they are gone for good!

Here are some other vine die options in stock.

S6-050-Cinch and Go Flowers

Spellbinders Cinch and Go Flowers

This is one of Spellbinders newer flower dies that has proven to be wildly popular.

I used the long flourishes for my wedding card today, but this is a wonderful die for making your own flowers, too! It’s super easy with the holes in the middle of each layer.
