The new Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks are the latest rage, and with good reason. They are so amazing and so fun to play with. I have used them for our Saturday classes and today I’d like to share the first of those class cards with you. These are super fun, super colorful and flat for mailing, too. Take a look:

These were the first cards done in class a couple weeks ago.

We used the smooshing technique, for lack of a better word.

Lay out your Craft Sheet, press a few colors of your Distress Oxide Ink pads into the sheet so you have squares of color, spray those squares of color with water using a Tim Holz Distress Sprayer. Then watch the magic happen as the ink beads up when the water hits it. Then press, or smoosh, your paper onto the ink. You can also drag it through for a slightly different effect. Heat dry when you get the coloration you are happy with on your paper. Then once your paper is dry, you can grab the Distress Sprayer once again and give a shot of water to your masterpiece. Again, magic happens as the inks react with the water and you get more movement of ink and a splattered and splotchy look. Dry again with your heat gun. And any of the above processes can be repeated as long as you remember to dry in between layers of ink. Super fun stuff!!!

I kept these cards simple as the focus was on the ink and the lovely results.

For the above two cards I used Tim Holtz Watercolor Paper, using the smooth side.  I did some samples on the rough side, and the inks worked beautifully, but when it came to stamping my sentiment, I got a crisper image stamping on the smooth side, thus my decision. Either side of the paper can be used.

I experimented on many different paper types, and the results were equally as stunning on anything I applied the Distress Oxides to.  This is a standard tag with a smooth finish and I LOVED the results on this.  The tag really curled a lot, but after heat drying I just flipped it over and blew the underside for a bit and it flattened right out.

I also experiment on a smooth white cardstock and those cards will be posted this evening.
