Crafty Secrets Cotton Scraps on Sale

Published by

Preparing this post sure was an unexpected trip down memory lane!  In my never-ending quest to rearrange things to try to make more room in my way-too-small store area, I decided that it was time to pull out my beloved Cotton Scraps and offer them on sale.  I have long LOVED these items more than I can explain — and I still do.  The unfortunate thing is, to the best of my knowledge, these are no longer available and it doesn’t appear they will be again anytime soon.

I have decided to offer the remainder of my supply of Crafty Secrets Cotton Scraps at a reduced price and I have just added them to the SPECIALS section of The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.  There are still a number of items on special from last weeks Grand Opening Blog Hop, so check them out as well.

If you are unfamiliar with Cotton Scraps, they are images printed onto an 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of heavy cotton twill fabric backed with removable paper. There is no adhesive on these scraps, allowing us to easily cut and sew them. The edges can be straight cut, pinked, frayed, or anything else you care to try! The Cotton Scraps can be attached to your project with any number of adhesives, by sewing, or with brads, buttons, etc. The sky is the limit with these fun fabric images!!!

Now here’s where the walk down memory lane came into play.  To show you some of my samples and how I like to use the Cotton Scraps, I went through my gallery for the past 4, nearly 5  years, and pulled up some cards to show you.  Please bear in mind as you view these cards, I am showing you these to give you ideas on how to use the scraps on a card — most of the scraps that you will see in my cards below are no longer available — many, many of the sheets have been sold out for quite some time — but there are still a large number of sheets with pretty and fun designs availabe.

I pinked the edges and backed with a like pinked sheet of cardstock — Yellow Silk Bow.

Again the edges were pinked — Scor-Tape used to adhere Cotton Scrap to paper — Violet Silk Bow.

Here I frayed the edges by pulling strings, then using a meandering stitch sewed the Cotton Scrap to the cardstock base — 3/8″ Velvet Bow.  I used small glue dots to hold the bow tails in place like that.

Again frayed edges and a meandering stitch on the sewing machine – 5/8″ Scalloped Satin Bow.

Again, frayed edges and a meandering stitch.

Simply pinked and adhered with Scor-tapeBlue Silk Bow.

Again, just pinked and adhered with Scor-tape Taupe Silk Bow.

Frayed edges and a zig zag stitch.

Again, frayed edges and a meandering stitch.

I think this is the first card I made using the Cotton Scraps in 2007.  The scrap is zig zag stitched on.  To make the apron I purchased a small lace doily, cut part of it out and sewed on the bias tape to form the waistband and apron strings — fun!  The hanging star is a mini cookie cutter.  This is a large card – 1/2 sheet  size (full sheet folded in 1/2).

Pinked and straight stitched on the machine – Pink Silk Bow.

This is the most recent card I’ve made with the Cotton Scraps.  Here I pinked the edges but then to give the Cotton Scrap more stability, I cut a rectangle of card stock to back it with, just small enough so it doesn’t show. That makes it easy to apply pop up dots and adhere the image to the card front.  The ribbon/flower treatment here is a personal favorite of mine — 1.5″ Satin Pleats, Velvet Zig Zag, Stitched Satin, and Prima Fairytale Roses.  That beautifully soft paper is Kaisercraft’s English Rose, available as an individual pad or in KIT form.

Here the Cotton Scrap is pinked and sewn onto the cardstock with a straight stitch, but then I used a meandering stitch on the cardstock border for a bit of interest.  Taupe Silk Bow.

All Silk Bows shown above have been made  using the Original Bow Easy.

And I think that’s it for my card samples.

Michelle Woerner has taken a trip down memory lane as well and shares her Cotton Scraps creations here.  You’ll note that Michelle has kept a clean edge to her Cotton Scraps to compliment her clean signature style!  Lots of options with Cotton Scraps!

Please remember, many of the Cotton Scrap sheets used in the above samples are no longer available.  The samples are shown to get your creative juices flowing as to what you can do with Cotton Scraps.

All Cotton Scraps in stock can be seen here.

If you haven’t used the Cotton Scraps before and would like to give them a try, I KNOW you’ll be pleased!

Many thanks for stopping in!  Hope your week is off to a great start!

Baby Girl in Cotton Scraps

Published by

Tonight I needed a quick card to mail out tomorrow for a brand new baby girl.  Cotton Scraps to the rescue!

klenner-baby-361-480.jpg

No stamping — quick and easy, using Baby Girl Cotton Scraps for my focal image and Ducks in a Row 8×8 Pad by October Afternoon, dressed up with some buttons from my stash and 1/2″ Wrinkled Ribbon in White, quadruple bow make on the Bow Easy.

klenner-detail-480-344.jpg

My Cotton Scrap is cut out with scissors, frayed a bit, sewn with a meandering stitch to a white piece of cardstock which is distressed with scissors, then adhered to a white sheet with a crisp, clean edge.  The punched edge was a scrap I found, I think from a Martha Stewart Punch.

All items except for cardstock are available at The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, all linked above.

Tuesday, June 8 – 8 a.m. — Watch for a fun Stamp Simply Ribbon Store Blog Hop with Candy!  Fun for all!!!

Thanks for checking in!  Have a good week!

Pink Cotton Scraps

Published by

I made this card for today’s Sketch Challenge at SCS as well as for the Crafty Secrets Challenge that is being run in their forum at SCS. I flipped the sketch on its side and I used a Cotton Scrap by Crafty Secrets, which are my all time favorite product from them. I fell in love with the Cotton Scraps the first time I saw them, and still love them just as much! They are so fun to work with!!! Here’s my card:

cc215-pink-scraps-480-wm-notime.jpg

The DP sheet used is from Crafty Secret’s Pastel Pad. Rather than use the horizontal strip on the sketch (horizontal when flipped, as I did), I let the lace border that was a part of the DP serve as that portion of the sketch — works for me!!! This is really quite simple, a few layers, ribbon, some pretties, a sentiment and pretty much done! Here’s a close-up of some of the detail:

sc215-pink-scraps-detail-480-wm-notime.jpg

The pretties up on top arespacerbeads(jewelry making section), adhered with a glue dot, then I applied a Rhinestone to the top. They are so delicate and pretty. Another of the fun little things sent to me by Sabrina — thank you, Sabrina!!! My favorite way to use the Cotton Scraps is to first fringe the edges, then sew my Scrap to a backing piece of cardstock cut a bit larger than the scrap (here I used meandering straight stitches, 3 times around), and then I like to distress the edges of the backing piece with my distressing tool. Then it’s ready to be adhered to the card!

Stamps: Glamour Girls by Crafty Secrets from Joan’s Garden

Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black
Accessories: Crafty Secrets Cotton Scraps (Flowers); Kaiser Rhinestones, Spacer Beads, May Arts Ribbon, SU Large Oval Punch, Glue Glider, Foam Mounting Squares, Sewing Machine and Thread, SU Distressing Tool, Glue Dots

Thanks so much for stopping in again today! I truly appreciate your visits and comments all the time — they truly make me smile!!! I hope to be back soon — thank you so much!!! Wishing you all a beautiful day!!!!

Cotton, Silk and Jute

Published by

Truly — No Time To Stamp! But I “needed” to make something tonight, and I did it without much stamping at all — again relying on my Cotton Scraps and a few pretty things. Here it is:

cotton-silk-jute-480-wm-notime.jpg

Another quick card, and it seems that’s all I’m doing lately! My Cotton Scrap is from Feathered Friends, one of your favorites, and to aid in speed, I merely cut it out with dressmaker pinking shears. I left the paper backing on to give it more body. After my silk was wrapped around the script panel, I adhered my Cotton Scrap with a heavy double sided tape. Again, my Taupe Silk is wrapped around the panel, attached on the back. I then took another length of Taupe Silk, ran it under the band and tied my bow. Such an easy way to get a pretty bow that ends up being straight.

Go back up and check out my cute button! It’s just an old button from my box, but I just got some new strings in 9 colors and have added them to the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store. I love them. Last week 2 of you asked me on the same day about strings for buttons, so I knew I had to get them, and I love them. They are so easy to thread though the button holes and tie off. This is just a neutral color, but I can’t wait to try the pink!!! Once I was getting strings, I got some cords as well — in 7 colors — those will be fun, too, on masculine themed or natural type cards. They are in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store as well.

Stamps: Bird Lovers by Crafty Secrets and retired SU French Script

Paper: PTI Vintage Cream, SU Soft Sky (retired)

Ink: SU Creamy Caramel, ColorBox Chalk Creamy Brown, Versa Fine Vintage Sepia

Accessories: Feathered Friends Cotton Scraps, Silk Ribbon and Jute String from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, Labels 4 Nestabilities by Spellbinders, Vintage Button, Pinking Shears, SU Corner Rounder, SU Dimensionals, Glue Glider

Shopping:

The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store carries the Cotton Scraps, Silk Ribbon and String.

Cotton, Silk and Candy…

Published by

…Blog Candy. Cotton Scraps by Crafty Secrets and Silk Ribbon by May Arts are a wonderful combo, but when we add the Candy, they all could be yours!!! Let me explain why I’m celebrating with this Blog Candy offering. Many of you know that I’ve been selling May Arts ribbon at the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store (real creative name, huh?), which is located on the TAB above my blog header. It’s just a simple little store with some ribbon that I love and use daily. I got so many questions always on my ribbon and bows, I just thought you might like some of what I use, so that’s how that got started. Well, my store will remain primarily ribbon, but from time to time I will be adding a few things that go well with my beloved ribbons, and right at the top of that list are the Cotton Scraps by Crafty Secrets. I have just added them to The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store where you may see them all. You’ll have to scroll all the way to the bottom, but they’re worth the scrolling!!! And here’s my Blog Candy offering today:

blog-candy-409.jpg

The winner will receive one sheet of Cotton Scraps (Flowers), along with the card I made about a week ago using the Lilac image from this sheet (card details here), and 10 yards of 1.25″ wide 100% Silk Ribbon by May Arts. You’ll get 2 yards each of the 5 colors shown in the photo (Violet, Lavender, Pink, Celery, Yellow). To enter all you have to do is leave a comment, telling me which of the Cotton Scraps (seen here, scroll down) is your favorite. Then come back HERE to comment. That’s it. A winner will be selected by a random number generator on Wednesday night (4/29)at about 10 p.m.EST. Good luck and have a great week! I’ll be back soon with a new card to show you!

If you’d like to see more samples of cards I’ve done with Cotton Scraps, just click here.

P.S. — Playing around withmy Blog Header — gosh, I had no clue it was so easy to change it — fun!!! Now you might see it changing all the time — LOL!!!

Sympathy Scraps

Published by

I noticed that a Sketch Challenge was issued on the Crafty Secrets Member Company forum, so seeing as I just LOVE their Cotton Scraps, thought I’d give it a try. Also, I am continually in need of, and out of, both sympathy cards and thank you notes, so once I found the scrap I was in the mood to use tonight, I figured it would make into a nice sympathy card. Here it is:

cssc01-sympathy-540-wm-notime.jpg

Now, for anyone who may not know, Cotton Scraps (by Crafty Secrets)are fabulous things!!! They comein sheets, about the size of a sheet of printer paper, filled with fabulously gorgeous images and they are — of course – cotton!!! Real cotton — kind of a twill type fabric — unreal!!! I fell in love with these things the first time I saw them — I will never tire of these beauties. They have a backing on them which you peel off after you’ve cut them out. They are not self stick – you must either sew them on (fun, fun!) or you may adhere them with your choice of adhesive. You can also pull threads to fray the edges if you like, or you can cut them with pinking shears. I LOVE the look of real stitches on the Cotton Scraps, so mine are usually sewn on.

OK, now as to this card specifically, I sewed my Cotton Scrap onto a base of yellow cardstock cut slightly larger than the scrap. I used these kind of roaming stitches and went around 3 times. I knew I wanted to have wavy ribbon tails (my favorite kind) so I thought these wavy stitches would go well. I then frayed my edges up to the stitching, distressed the yellow cardstock, and mounted this onto a sheet of gray cardstock, which was eventually adhered to the card with mounting tape. I used some pretty paper from a 6 x 12 pad from Crafty Secrets, Heartwarming Vintage Collection, Pastel Pad, to border the right side of the card. I then did a very thin piping strip of Going Gray and then a strip of green which was punched with the pretty Martha Stewart Scallop Punch. The sentiment is stamped right on the base cardstock. The velvet bow is adhered with Mini Glue Dots, and I also use glue dots to keep my ribbon tails in the shape I like. There is a glue dot under each place it touches the card. I know some may not care to fuss with ribbon that much — but it’s my passion — LOL!!!

The yellow and green cardstock used are from the Prismatics line by Prism Paper. The gray is SU, ribbon is May Arts. That about sums it up!!! If you have any Cotton Scraps at home that you’ve been hoarding, pull them out and give them a try — play the challenge — it’s an easy and fun sketch!!!

  • Stamps: Card Sentiments by Crafty Secrets
  • Paper: Prism: Sunflower Light and Spring Willow Medium; SU: Basic Gray; Crafty Secrets: Pastel Pad in the Heartwarming Vintage Collection
  • Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black
  • Accessories: Cotton Scraps by Crafty Secrets, Velvet Ribbon, Martha Stewart Lace Punch, Sewing Machine and Thread, Distressing Tool on Cutter Kit, Mounting Tape, Mini Glue Dots.

And speaking of challenges, Flourishes is planning a contest on their Member Company Forum which will begin on February 1. Check it out here!!! Pull out your Cake Decorating 101 sets and be ready to play, or order them if you need to!!! There’s plenty of time as the contest will run all of February!!!

Thanks again for stopping in!!! Have a great Sunday everyone!!!

Birds and Botanicals – A Crafty Secrets Comeback!

Published by

First of all, I’d like to thank everyone for the birthday wishes yesterday. I truly do appreciate them all! And to add icing to the cake, the Design Team girls surprised me with a SURPRISE Birthday Blog Hop!  It was so much fun and their cards were fabulous! Thank you so much!!!  If you missed it, you can find all their fabulous creations at these links:

Now, as to the project at hand for today, I was super pleased to be able to re-stock a few items that have been long time favorites. Do any of you remember the small pads, 3″ x 6″, from Crafty Secrets called Image and Journal Notes? Can’t tell you how much I loved these little pads and relied on them heavily for quick cards.  I used them a ton going back four, five, six years.  Then Crafty Secrets went digital and I couldn’t get them anymore. Well, can you imagine my surprise and delight when I spotted a few of them last week.  I couldn’t place my order quickly enough. I do have some in stock now, not the variety that used to be available, but I got what I could. Here’s some samples to show you some of these GORGEOUS vintage themed images:

Daily Specials – Pretty Embellishments

Published by

I spent some time today adding some fun embellishments to our Daily Specials section (that means they are at REDUCED PRICES!).   I think you’ll enjoy the prices!  One new kit was put together and I’ve pulled samples of some of the other items in use, just in case anyone would enjoy a little inspiration.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Kit

The Cotton Scraps and Journal Note pads by Crafty Secrets are sadly no longer produced.  They have been some of my favorite items to use — just FUN!  Here I have paired up the “girly” themed scraps and notes and added some ribbon and flowers that coordinate beautifully.  Available in limited supply.  Once gone, they are gone for good.

Linda Duke made this card several years back when she was working for Crafty Secrets using the Cotton Scraps included in the kit. LOVE the garters!!!

The Prima Trinket Flowers have been added to the Daily Specials as well.  Here are some samples of them in use.

Deb made this card using a LaBlanche stamp.  She used 1/4″ Silk with her Trinket Flower.

See Deb’s original post here.

Love this card by Barb!  She used a Verve Plain Jane, Amazing Grace, and 5/8″ Solid Plaid Ribbon with her Trinket Flower, with paper by Kaisercraft, These Days.

See Barb’s original post here.

This gorgeous card was made by Deb using a Kanban stamp.  This one is no longer available, but there are some others in stock.

Love how she used the 3/4″ Striped Twill with the Trinket Flower here.

See Deb’s original post here.

What a gorgeous color combo!  Deb used JustRite’s Greetings from Paris cling stamp, Prima’s Melody paper, along with 1.25″ Silk Ribbon and 1/8″ Velvet.  Gorgeous!

You can see Deb’s original post here.

Barb used a Trinket Flower to adorn her lovely birdhouse!  How SWEET!  She used Prima Reflections paper with Burlap String and 1/8″ Velvet.

See Barb’s original post here.

And Deb made bookmarks with her Trinkets!  How clever is that!  She used 3/4″ Striped Twill and 7/8″ Gingham Ribbon.

See the original post on Deb’s blog here.

The Prima Amore Hearts have also been added to the Daily Specials.  I made this card using one as my focal point.

See the original post here.

This Prima Butterfly Kiss adorns a scrapbook page.  They are also in the Daily Specials section.

See the original post here.

And Barb used a Butterfly Kiss on her sweet name project.

See Barb’s full post here.

All Daily Specials can be found here.

All items available at The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, as linked.

Vintage Ladies Inspired this SALE!

Published by

Today I was just having fun again going through and trying to make more space — it truly IS a never ending task for me!  And it IS fun to actually see what I have –  kind of like revisiting old friends!  Today these vintage ladies struck my fancy.  Supplies are fairly low on them all, but in hopes of finding them all a new home, they are all reduced in price.

Let’s begin with the Vintage Vogue items by Pink Paislee.

I’ve pulled up photos from two of the Stamp Simply designers today to give you some inspiration.  LOVE these projects:

LOVE this easy to create card, Deb — THANK YOU!

This decorated glass candle jar was created by Barb — what a GREAT little gift, and quick to  make.

Next up we switch to Crafty Secrets Cotton Scraps — I have used these SO much over the years and truly wish they were not out of production, but sadly they are.  I was tempted to make a card today by cutting into one of these Girltime Scraps but with so few left, I thought it better to save it for one of you to use and enjoy.

More vintage goodness!

When I saw this trim card by Prima I KNEW it would be a perfect compliment to these Girltime Cotton Scraps, so I recently ordered them specifically to match this cotton scrap.  I can just imagine the fun projects to be made with this pairing of product lines.

Shown above are:

Crafty Secrets Image and Journal Notes Pads – Girlfriends (on sale)

Please note the Prima Twill Trim Package was made to coordinate with the Almanac Collection by Prima, so that’s another option!
