Large Square Envelopes

Published by at 11 18 pm under Chit Chat

I get asked often about where I get my envelopes as my favorite size card to make is a 5.5 inchsquare, and since I just received a few more inquiries, I’ll address it here. I always use 6″ square envelopes that I buy on the net. I’ve bought from a few different places and have been happy with them all. My last purchase was from Action Envelopes, and I’ll link them in my sidebar. Their pricing structure is such that the more you buy, the cheaper they are. When you go to their site, do a search for square envelopes, and you’ll get a listing of all size squaresin more colors than you can imagine! I always get plain white and have purchased the ivory as well.

I really like the 6″ envelopes. With a 5.5″ card that leaves 1/2″ of space, which I really like as many of my cards are rather thick and bulky, orhave larger ribbon knots, or who knows what — so I enjoy the extra space the 6″ envelopes provide.

And about shipping bulkier cards — I learned a little trick from Linda Bullard a year or so ago. Maybe everyone does this already, but it was knew to me and I thought it was brilliant. To make a padding for your card in the envelope, cut a piece of cardstock the size of the card and run it through your crimper — instant protection for your card front!!! I’ve done that ever since I learnedit from Linda, and have received a ton of remarks on what a great idea it is — I thought it was too — thank you, Linda!!!! Just thought I’d share that in case it might be helpful to someone else!!! I often feel I’m the last to learn everything, but just maybe there is someone else out there who didn’t know!!! LOL!!!

OK, I couldn’t get the link to work in the sidebar, so here it is: Action Envelopes

It is interesting that you just addressed this issue of envelopes as I was just about to email you with that exact question of where to purchase them. I just got home from Walmart wondering around looking for all their envelope sizes. Now I am LOL when I read your blog. THANKS for being here right when I need you. AND I guess I am the last one to know about the padding for a card – it is an awesome idea. Thanks!

Hey, great tip Sharon. I had never heard of the crimping idea!!! I love these large size cards also. Thanks for the link for the envelopes!!!

  7. Thanks for this, Sharon! I use quite a few of the 5 1/2″ square envies so it’s good to have an economical source. I’ve also received Linda’s cards with the crimped protector and it works like a charm. The mail can be pretty rough sometimes!

It is immensely helpful to me…I didn’t know and now I’m sooo happy that I do. It would be nice not to grill the recipient about what shape the card was in when it arrived, was it intact!! It was very generous of you to link us to the envelope site, I love information like this, TFS.

What a wonderful idea! And when you’re mailing square cards, they usually cost more anyway, so I’m sure the crimped cardstock doesn’t add any extra postage besides what you’d have to pay normally. My regular-sized cards are expensive to mail, too, so I doubt the extra crimped protector will add much more in postage.

What an awesome tip about crimping a piece of cardboard. Thank you so much!

Awww, now aren’t you sweet to mention me about the crimped padding for mailing. I’m glad it’s helped you. And I just used it again today, for my card to Maddy. I did find some 6 x 6 envelopes at my local craft store, but they only have them in white right now. So, I might still have to use your source if I want some vanilla ones. As always, you are the great communicator and sharer – Share On, Sharon! :o) BTW, I just subscribed in case you haven’t already noticed. Yay! Linda
