Sharing Vintage Farm Photos

Published by at 12 45 pm under Uncategorized

Hi everyone!  I NEVER intended to be absent from blogland for so long — I have no clue how July is evaporating so fast!  I was gone the past week to attend the bridal shower of my future daughter-in-law, but now I’m back home and trying to play catch up on orders, unpacking and uploading new boxes of product filling my porch, and just in general trying to catch my breath and get back on track.  I have a long list of cards that need to be made and I’m anxious to dig into that to-do list as soon as I can.

Yesterday a friend who helps me around the house asked if she could take some pictures before she left.  I had no clue she enjoyed photography and was more than happy to have her take pictures of our farm, and those are the pictures I’m sharing below.  These are  little snippets of our home and farm.   Our farm is 110 years old and our children were the 5th generation to be raised here.   I hope you enjoy the photos!

All photos are by Cindy VanBuren of Skanee (L’Anse), Michigan.

By the way, this vintage windmill (Aermotor) is for sale — [email protected].

I wish I could offer you a cup of coffee or ice tea along with a rock and chat on the porch —

Thanks for looking!  Hope you enjoyed your little visit!

Have a wonderful week and I’ll try to get back here with a card to post ASAP!!!

Wow what great pictures. I will pass on the tea, but sure would love to sit on the porch with you. Guess that isn’t going to happen this summer. Everything looks so pretty.

Thanks for sharing them with us.

Your friend is a very good photographer. She has some great pictures of your farm. Love all the antiques you have around your farm. Michigan is a beautiful state. Can you tell that I too am from Michigan. Enjoyed looking at your farm.

  3. BJ says:

You have a really beautiful place, I assume with lots of good memories. Really nice pictures, but I want to know, how do you get those cows to pose like that? Thanks for sharing.

What beautiful photographs and a beautiful farm. So serene and peaceful (although, I know first hand it is not always that way around a farm). You can see God’s glory all around you.

  8. *LOVE*!! I want to come visit you so bad. I love farms. I want to sit on your porch and sip tea or lemonade and talk about stuff. What a wonderful place you have!

  9. Sheri says:

Oh my stars Sharon ~ I had no idea that you lived in and on such a dreamy landscape!!! You lucky girl you! My favorite picture, which ALL of them are perfectly done, is the one with the wooden chair on the porch with white periwinkles in the pot. Oh you are one blessed lady…and you SO deserve it. I have been following you in blogland since 2007, I believe…that is when I started making cards…long story there…anyhoo. Thank you for sharing and here is wishing you a very happy weekend!

P.S. I still have my list sitting here in front of my computer…and I am still adding stuff 🙂

I used to LOVE going to my grandmother’s farm in Ontario when I was a kid and these pictures bring back fond memories. What a wonderful thing to have 5 generations in that farmhouse! Thanks for sharing the pictures 🙂

  14. Juanita in Ohio says:

Aren’t showers big fun, I LOVE them? Welcome home, I am glad you were protected by God’s arc of safety during your travels. The photos are fabulous, fabulous!!!! That is some farm and history. The two black and white photos are so authentic they would make fabulous wall photos. I am so impressed by them, the first b&W looks as if it was taken fifty years ago. The juxtaposition of the dark sky and well lit fronts of the buildings is intriging and appealing to me. I AM a city girl all around but I would really like to spend some time on your porch, I can bring the coffee and ice tea, lol. TFS.

Boy, do these photos remind me of my early years on my Grandpa’s farm in NJ!! I loved being on that farm sooooo much. We had 110 acres and 2 Holsteins, and I loved going out to milk them with my uncle. Unfortunately, it didn’t remain in the family and is now the site of very pricey homes. You are very lucky to still have your farm, and I hope someone in your family will want to hang on to it. The family farm is disappearing all too quickly. Enjoy your lovely, lovely space. And blessings to you and your family.

  18. Michele says:

What wonderful pictures. My background doesn’t include rural living at all, but it is just so lovely. I tend to buy artwork related to farms, and your pictures are certainly artwork. Thanks for sharing!

  19. Leigh says:

Absolutely wonderful photos Sharon. Thanks so much for sharing a part of your world.

  20. Linda E says:

Gorgeous pictures of your farm, it reminds me of my grandfather’s farm. Glad your back!!!

  21. Sherry in MI says:

Sharon, what lovely photos! What a beautiful farm…and 5 generations! You must be very proud.
Indeed, Michigan is a beautiful state. We couldn’t be much farther apart, though, as you are
very close to the rabbit’s ear and I am downstate, nearing the base of the mitten (north of the
‘Big D’). See, I really am from Michigan….I know all about our state’s geography. 😉 Thanks
    for sharing the photos.

  22. Bev J. says:

Beautiful photos of your farm. Your friend is very talented. The cows struck a chord as we milked for years and now are raising some holstein heifers. Welcome back.

  23. Karen Witter says:

Love the pics, Sharon. What a gorgeous and enviable setting. Would love to sit on the porch and visit with you. Thanks for sharing the pics. Your friend did a super job with her camera.

  24. Ann says:

You have a lovely farmstead! My grampa had a Holstein he milked when i was a kid; she was so gentle, but so TALL — at least compared to the Herefords he raised to sell.

  25. Corrine Ann says:

Beautiful, beautiful pictures! I would love to join you for a visit and some coffee or tea. I have lived around farms my whole life, but never on a farm. My husband in his retirement, is a sub milk truck driver for a farmer in our area, he also drives a school bus when school is in session and right now is driving a bus full of students who are corn detasseling here in northern Illinois where we live. You have a beautiful farm and raising your family on a farm is one of the best things, I think, for children. There is lots to learn and it is hard work. They appreciate the value of things in life. Enjoy your blog, cards and all the things you have to tempt us card makers or scrap book people. Have a good day!

  26. Pat Thorsen says:

What a beautiful place you have and she took wonderful photos. I’d love to sit on the porch with you. I check every day for new cards and have missed you! Welcome home! I look forward to seeing your new projects.

  27. Sue says:

This farm gal thinks your farm is gorgeous. How blessed your children are to get to grow up there!

  28. Carole says:

    Sharon–

I’m writing this from Los Angeles, this weekend featuring CARMAGEDDON.

So, as you might imagine, your farm looks like a dream from another world. These beautiful pictures make me want to leave L.A. and move back to the States. 😉

What a great accomplishment to have 5 generations of family living there. Many blessings and may 50 more generations follow in your footsteps.

    Cheers!

  29. Deb Saaranen says:

Fabulous pics! Wish I could be there visiting and having coffee…we’ve enjoyed some great times on that porch!

  30. Hi Sharon! WOW! These photos are wonderful and your home & grounds are AWESOME!! Everything looks just ‘neat as a pin’ and I love how you have ‘potted’ your flowers! Very creative just like your card creations! When you & Joan decide to sit on that porch and visit, let me know … I just might make the trip and join you!
How wonderful to have 5 generations raised on this beautiful farm! Hugs to you! Take Care!

  31. Gail says:

I enjoy your blog so much. Seeing your beautiful farm makes your blog more personal to us. It is wonderful that the farm is still in the family, I wish I had my great grandparent’s farm house that was built in 1900. I couldn’t pick a favorite photo, your friend did a really great job of capturing the homey, peaceful setting. I’m downstate in Lapeer County and live in the country, but very few farms left around here.

  32. Pam Conner says:

WOW Sharon………what a beautiful place in you live in! It looks so peaceful. Your children are very lucky to grow up in such a wonderful setting!!!

    Hugs, Pam

  33. Maryjo Wiggen says:

Sharon these pictures are superb! Brings out the vitality of living the farm life on your Centennial farm!

  34. Connie says:

Reminds me of our family farm with windmills, tractors and holsteins. Thanks for sharing.
